(IATA) Compliant Dog Crates for Air Travel
Ensure your dog is safe and secure during air travel with an approved dog crate
If you need to transport your dog via aeroplane, there is nothing more worrying than thinking about if it is comfortable and safe. Worry no more with the selection of suitable dog transport crates available here at zooplus.
Another key issue to consider if you are flying with your dog is that the travel crate or kennel must by an IATA approved pet carrier. The IATA (International Air Transport Association) sets out a range of safety standards that must be met for a crate to be approved and to allow your dog to travel safely and comfortably in the cargo hold.
Some of the safety standards for IATA approved pet carriers:
- Your dog must be able to turn around normally while standing, to sit up straight and to lie down in a natural position: all of the IATA approved pet carriers available from zooplus offering sizing charts, guidance on measuring your dog and suggestions on which crate size you may need depending on your pet’s breed. For example, the Marchioro Clipper Pet Transporter is recommended for smaller dogs such as Yorkshire Terriers and Chihuahuas.
- It must be made of a sturdy enough material that your dog cannot escape or that the crate may be damaged if struck by other cargo: the dog carriers available at zooplus are made from strong, sturdy materials and feature metal lids and doors that can withstand pressure.
- Food and water troughs must be available to your pet during the flight: just as you wouldn’t want to be thirsty or hungry on a flight with no means of sustenance, neither would your dog! The Trixie Dog Kennel Gulliver comes with a practical food and water bowl that can easily be fastened on to the bars at the front of the cage, so you can have peace of mind while your pet is travelling.
