Agility is not a concept known only to dog lovers. Cat owners also know all about obstacle courses that encourage agility and trust in every participant. Small pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, degus, chipmunks, chinchillas and rats are also glad to have some variety in their lives.

Getting started
It’s easy to make a fun obstacle course for small pets. Depending on the size and weight of your pet, cardboard boxes, leftover wood, toilet paper rolls or paper bags without handles can be turned into an adventure playground. There are also specially manufactured tunnels, dens, bridges, running wheels, and play houses.
Do it yourself
With some imagination and skill, you can build similar obstacles yourself. With just a little effort, you can make a hammock for ferrets from a dish cloth or use an empty toilet paper roll as a tunnel for mice, degus and hamsters. A small wooden board can be used as a ramp and a thin wooden stick can become an obstacle for rabbits.

There are a few rules to follow when building by hand. Don’t use any toxic glues, remove wooden splinters before using leftover paint and take out pins and nails from wood and cardboard. These could be fatal when small pets are nibbling away. Always build obstacles and shelters that are stable enough so that they don’t collapse and endanger your pet! For safety reasons, you should always supervise your pet while it plays!
